A Closer Look at Lychee Black Tea

A Closer Look at Lychee Black Tea

Warmth, aroma, and intention in every steep.

There was something quietly grounding about this tea, something soft yet deep. And that’s the experience I wanted to bring into this launch.

A Tea Rooted in Place

My curiosity began when I spotted a fruit-infused tea sitting alongside a row of pure teas in a space with a long history. As we chatted with aunty, I learned that this tea — too — came from the hills of Fujian, China. Instead of using flavourings, it’s naturally scented through a smoking process, allowing the black tea to absorb the fruit’s sweetness in a way that feels gentle and real. The result is beautifully balanced — soft and mellow — with a naturally lychee aroma that’s fruity, lightly floral, and never overpowering.

I took home a 100g sample, and I caught myself reaching for it again and again over the next few days.

The Intention Behind the Blend

From the moment I decided to kickstart this series, I knew this tea needed to be more than just a product. I wanted it to hold space for something personal — a reminder of the quiet joy that comes from simply being where you are.

When I first chanced upon this tea, I had no idea that launching a caffeinated tea would be the next step for Tea Buds. After all, I had spent the last three years talking about how Tea Buds curates caffeine-free floral teas.

But through the research, chats with aunty, quiet moments with the tea, and a constant questioning of whether we should introduce a caffeinated series, a clear message kept speaking to me: you are where you need to be.

It’s not that this tea is the best in the whole wide world — rather, it’s a tea that inspired me to embrace the season I’m in.

This is why I chose the affirmation printed on the label: “With every sip, I welcome love, warmth and abundance into my life.” A soft nudge to invite these experiences into our everyday moments.

Brewing It Your Way

I chose to keep this tea loose leaf to give you the space to brew it in a way that feels right for you. There’s no one perfect way to brew this tea — follow your heart, and trust your senses. I've asked aunty way too many times on how to brew it, and she simply said: 用心泡, 看你的感觉咯.

Still, here’s a gentle starting guide:

  • Amount: 3–4g per 250ml cup
  • Water temperature: Just below 100°C (boiling water can make the tea taste astringent — or siap siap, as we say)
  • Steep time: 2–3 minutes
  • Multiple infusions: Yes — extend the steeping time by 30s to 1min for each additional brew.
  • Try it hot on slow mornings, or cold brewed for a mellow afternoon treat.

This tea is for the ones who love a slow ritual. The ones who want a little more abundance in their day, or simply a moment to sit with themselves. However it finds you, you are where you need to be.
